Telling Time: 60 Minutes in an Hour

Now we were starving really bad,

The long hand on the clock shows the minutes and the small hand shows the hour
We always say the hour, or where the small hand is pointing, first
For example, this clock shows 3 O’clock
If we wanted to show 3:15
We start with 3 O’clock and then we can count by 5’s until we get to 15
5-10-15
Notice how each number on the clock stands for one group of 5 minutes
So 3:15 is when the long hand is pointing to the 3,
If we were to show 4:45
We’d start at 4 O’clock,
and then count by 5’s until we get to 45
5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40-45
You can see that 45 is at the number 9
and that’s 4:45
