We all have skin,
Stretched smoothly tight,
Wraps up our bodies day and night…
Largest organ that we own,
Bigger than our brain or bone!
Skin provides us sense of touch,
Feels hot and cold,
Smooth and rough…
Hard or soft,
On hand and heel,
It’s my skin that lets me feel…

Skin is the largest organ of the human body and is made of many layers.
The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin and is thinnest on our eyelids and thickest on the palms of our hands and soles of our feet.
The layer below the epidermis is called the dermis. The dermis has the nerve endings that give us our sense of touch. The dermis also contains our hair follicles, blood vessels, and sweat glands.
Skin is a soft tissue, while the outer layer of animals like ants and lobsters is hard and called an exoskeleton.
