Pluto (dwarf planet) Poem

Is Pluto a planet?
My new teacher joked,
NASA called it a planet,

But that’s been revoked!
A planet one time,
The 9th from the sun,
 It’s now been demoted,
Its title undone!
Hard rock and cold ice,

Found deep in dark space,
With Eris and Ceres,
It shares a strange place,
It’s called a dwarf planet,
Orbits the skies,
But not a true planet,
Based on its size!

What is Pluto?

Back in the old days when I was going to elementary school, Pluto was the ninth planet from the sun. Unfortunately, the “planet” label for Pluto has been revoked and it is now considered a dwarf planet.
Alas, it still orbits the sun like our Earth, but it has not “cleared its neighborhood” which means it is not necessarily the dominant gravitational force in its orbital zone- there are some other big objects floating around on their own.

In July of 2015, NASA’s New Horizons space probe made a fly-by of Pluto -when it took amazing new pictures and collected new data about the dwarf planet.
