I’ve said it once,
I’ve said it twice,
Covalent bonding is quite nice!
Electrons shared all nice and equal,
But bonding has a troubled sequel…
A type of bonding called ionic,
And I would say it’s quite ironic,
When electron sharing’s not allowed,
They’re taken from an atom’s cloud…
An ionic bond is a chemical bond in which electrons from one atom are released and transferred to another atom.
Ionic bonds are usually formed between metals and non-metals, for example, sodium (a metal), and chlorine (a non-metal) to make NaCl, or table salt.
