Every time the lights go out,
I want to fly around,
But after sunrise ends the night,
I never can be found…
My mother says,
Nocturnal means,
I sleep all through the day,
And once the sunlit skies turn dark,
I always come to play…
Some creatures are diurnal,
Which means they play in light,
But being I was born a bat,
I like to play at night…

Nocturnal animals are animals that are active at night and sleep during daylight hours.
Many nocturnal animals have a highly developed sense of hearing, smell, or other special adaptations to let them see or navigate in the dark. For instance, bats use echolocation to navigate in the dark.
Some other nocturnal animals are owls, raccoons, skunks, tigers (and most other cats), crickets, gerbils, and koalas.
Animals that are active in the daytime are called diurnal animals.
