You might be a camel 

Or a hippopotamus,

Or a human just like us!

You’re furry like some flannel,

Or a silly platypus,

Or a human just like us!

We give birth to live young,

Hearts pumping warm blood,

We might live on land, in the sea, or in some mud…

Covered by some soft fur, or maybe a few hairs,

Our eyes, and ears and feet and lungs, all come in pairs!

Not a turtle, but a gerbil

And a rabbit and a bear,

Mammals have some fur, and us humans call it hair!

Not a guppy but a puppy,

Not an eel but a seal,

We’re always warm blooded, and we make our milk…for real?

Not a moth, but a sloth, and a deer and a steer,

Most mammals have live births,

3 bones in our ear! 

Some can lay some eggs,

And only one can fly,

We’re not fish or birds, or insects in the sky!

We come in many sizes- from mice, to cow, to whale,

And mammals like to run, and swim, and fly, and climb, or sail….
