Moon Poem

Mother tucked me into bed,
Placed a pillow by my head,
Pillow Cartoon
Said good night, shut the door,
Before I dreamt or snored a snore,
I checked the window, with one eye,
Made sure the moon was in the sky…
half moon
The moon was really way too small,
Barely lit my nighttime wall,
Half the moon had disappeared!
I was feeling oh-so-scared,
I called my Mom,
To ask her why,
She came right in,
Sat by my side,
The moon’s up there,
Just as high,
The same-sized moon,
Just as wide,
Sometimes sunlight,
Makes it hide,

When it lights the other side…
A side that humans never see,
A side of moonlit mystery,
Soon the moon will come full bloom,
And light-up your entire room…

I felt better,
Closed my eyes,
And dreamt of moonlit,
Starry skies…

What is the Moon?

Earth’s only moon takes approximately 27.3 days to make it’s entire orbit around the Earth.

The same side of the moon is always facing Earth- that’s because it rotates as it orbits the Earth. Some people call the hidden side, the dark side of the moon, but it gets just as much sunlight as the side we see from Earth.

The Moon is about 385,000 km (238,900 miles) from the Earth.

In 1969, astronauts who traveled on Apollo 11 became the first to walk on the moon.

The tides of the oceans on Earth are directly related to the gravitational pull of the moon.

The diameter of the Moon is 3,474 km, which is about one quarter of the diameter of the Earth (12,756 km)
